Another year, another…. year (older, wiser, alive).  I generally don’t try to wait until a new year begins to make a milestone decision to do something or not do something.  If it’s something I want to do, I do it when I feel like regardless of what numbers come after the first 2 and 0 in the calendar.  Howevah… it IS pretty convenient to do some things during the usual holiday downtime and that was my intention for updating the the RSG website.  It just turned out to be a bigger job and took longer than I thought it would to finish.

I’m no expert when it comes to building website and doing graphic design and all that.  I get by with what I’ve learned over the years and any new stuff I can learn in a short amount of time.  I’m picky about how my websites look and function and if they’re not working well then I scrap them and try something else.  The holidays are a pretty good time for me to work on that, so I took down the RSG site in mid December and hoped to have it back up by early January.  That didn’t happen, but a surgery did happen, and now it’s February and I’m relaunching the site today even though it’s not 100% complete.

One hurdle was changing host companies.  I absolutely HATE doing this but my old provider raised my hosting plan and I had no choice but to find another host.  And boy did I ever!  Between a combination of coupon codes from Wikibuy and Honey, I got 4 years of hosting for less than the cost of 1 year from my old provider.  I couldn’t turn it down.  Now, here’s the down side….

I’ve never successfully migrated a complete website and database from one provider to another and ended up with a fully working site in the end.  It’s just never worked out well due to different backend systems and such.  So I had to start from nothing on the new platform.  Which means creating all new content, all new graphics, entering the product inventory all over again, writing all the product descriptions, setting all the SEO stuff… It’s been tough, but I’m digging this new look and feel.  The new graphics are coming along, the layout is clean, and the site is very quick compared to older versions.

I’ll be adding items, tweaking things, and expanding the site daily over the next few weeks, so it’s a work in progress.  Thanks for sticking around during the down time and for working through the Reverb storefront while this site was being rebuilt.
